Brighton scored with their two shots that were on target one being a penalty.

We had thirteen shots to their eleven with just three of ours on target.

The ominous signs are that, carried over from last season, we are not performing very well as a team. This does not auger well for Moyes and his crew and his fate is in the hands of our owners. If they can see their golden goose ceasing to lay eggs they will take action. Our owners will not risk relegation and so a couple more league defeats could be curtains for Moyes. The owners know that taking action late in the day is risky compared to acting in timely fashion.

I would not be surprised if Gollivan were scouting around right now for someone to replace Moyes.

Get Noble into our dressing room he'll get e'm fired up !!

Pearce was in the stands on Thursday.

Pearce left because he got married recently I think. He don't live close to London either.

Do we know why Pearce left and didn't another coach leave too. We know Moyes fell out with Soucek, Coufal and possibly Benrahma possibly money issues. Can't help but feel he is losing the dressing room and with it the team spirit which was massive for most of last season.

Never really warmed to Zouma and that was before he was volleying felines... just looks an awkward clumsy shit footballing stopper... and he's not even stopping shit now... need a fit Oggy back as soon as poss for me...

Took us nigh on 9 hours getting back from Newton Abbot yesterday .... sounds like I had a better day than most on here... all a bit fucking rubbish

w4 - Yep, just shuffling the pack sadly doesn't look like it will be the answer now, problems a lot more deep rooted than that.

I think Sunday (2 shit sides) could come down to who wants it the most, and Stevie G is more likely to have his troops more fired up than ours, plus we have this ridiculous trip to legoland on Thursday.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Preview
i think he started gthe wrong side - I would have put scamacca up front, anthonio out wide and probably benny in at no 10- firstly it gives us a longer time to get scamacca into the game and at least keep brighton back four busier than we did

Ultimately we're shuffling deck chairs on the titantic-- the problems witrh the team & players is structural and deep - we are one-paced/wideopen/predictable/flairless

a long and dire season ahead

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Preview
Yesterday was just plain poor. Brighton simply pressed Rice and waited for the ball to bounce off of Antonio. West Ham nullified. When Moyes changed Antonio for Scamacca we continued to play in the same way despite entirely different skill sets. Moyes needs to quickly get his head around the concept of progress, if something isn't working then do it differently, simply carrying on with something that isn't working by changing personnel is change for change sake and will fail. Whether the drive of Noble and Pearce is missing, or simply the players are getting older and losing pace, the team starts off by looking knackered and goes downhill from there.
Needs sorting out fast as a season with a world cup break in it will involve intelligent management to be successful this year.

"(is Downes that type as I know little about him?)"

he had (for what it's worth) one of the best passing completion stats in the championship. problem is, he isn't 6ft 2+ and isn't a threat at set pieces, so will probably remain as a five minute option

Zouma just does not look right.

With the ball, when he runs, he is definitely carrying something sinister. Almost hobbling when he walks.

Threat is one thing, scoring another.

Sir Alf 11:53 Mon Aug 22
Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Preview
Midfield is the first area to be addressed and quickly. Need a Kanté type player in there with pace and strength and good passing ( is Downes that type as I know little about him? ).

The formation or more importantly the roles in the formation need fixing too to ensure we are not getting dominated in every game in the middle. Fornals presses so while he was invisible yesterday he may still have a place in tge first 11 if we can get the whole unit keeping possession better and being able to pass around or thru the opposition press which we have been unable to do for a long while predating several managers.

So Paul Nevin and Nolan, Warbarton under Moyes direction or as a group need to have players and agreement to be able to pass our way out when pressed high. We do not currently IMO have the players to do that. Partially age and mobility or speed of movement and thought but of course ability. Lanzini, Cresswell, Coufal, Soucek are the first set to look at changing out or upgrading.

Then you need to replace with players very comfortable on the ball in tight situations like yesterday when Brighton pressed us high all over the park. We resorted to “hoofing it” in panic to avoid being dispossessed. When we did try to play out or thru midfield we simply lost it anyway with our inability to move and make space and miscontrol or picking wrong options. Benrahma gave us our only outlet but his distribution and final ball let’s him down when out wide always. But he was our best going forward so shows how awful the rest were.

But it’s a team thing. We CBs who also look to play from the back and supposedly why we bought Aguerd. Wing backs who give movement too and also need to pass accurately and crisply like all the team should.

But it begins in central midfield for me. Movement and speed and slick passing. Then extends to the wide midfielders who should also defend and press fast when not in possession.

Even I remember playing back in the Victorian age that you only need a team to have 2 or 3 players moving quicker and passing it well to be chasing shadows in the middle and getting dispossessed and feeling you have no time or space. That tgen means forwards being isolated or relying on the long punt or diagonal or being limited to playing it back and forth along the back in your own half to have any possession as we have done in 3 of our 4 games and many last season.

Counterattack game has been worked out. Need different tactics and formation to play by keeping the ball and unfortunately better technical players and quicker ones too in some positions.

A full rebuild and transition that should have started a while back. If it don’t start or work soon Moyes will be yet another on the scrap heap but I think he deserves a few more games.

The Villa one is key as its the only one in the next few games against a non rich top 6 outfit unless Chelsea truly have lost the plot

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Preview
Benrahma has most likely been our biggest attacking threat so far this season, which when you look at the goals scored column, isn't that much.

Yey Moyes has dropped him and publicly criticised him and wants him sold.

Re: ⚽ West Ham v Brighton - Official Match Thread - Preview
Moyes allegedly commented after the match something along the lines of 'if the new guys didn't adapt to the PL soon maybe we will have to stick with what we have got'!!!!

That is precisely what you have done you turd! New guys only brought on for a few minutes when the match was lost by lazy, clueless players tip tapping around with zero energy and enthusiasm. If that is the best he can do, piss off!

The team for the second leg of Europa cup should only include Areola, Rice, Ogbonna and Benrahma from the 'old' lot then all of the new players who are fit with youngsters filling the gaps. I name Benrahma simply because he apparently was best of the bunch at Forest and he certainly injected energy into the side when he came on midweek.

“Remember Gold supporting Grant right until the end?”

Well that’s not true. They lined up Martin O’Neill to replace him about half way through the season, but it got leaked to the press and O’Neill pulled out. It’s only then they stuck with Grant.

For a champions league winner and our highest paid player, I’d expect a more whole hearted performance from Zouma. Was at fault for the Penalty, fed up with him lumbering back with no urgency, not lived up to expectations in any way.

Soucek hasn’t looked like he wants to be here since this so called wage dispute has been going on, drop the petulant cunt.

Antonio, for all the decent attitude, is just a shit striker, last season when he was off to a brilliant start with 6 in 8 he was talking about the golden boot - simpleton. Fed up with most of his attempts hitting the floodlights.

Cresswell has needed replacing for at least 2 seasons how the fuck can a professional footballer be soooo one footed.

Benrahma, it’s just getting tedious now.

Coufal and Fornals are triers at least, but shouldn’t be guaranteed starters.

There’s very little to be positive about when that team seems incapable of lifting the support who would in turn lift the team.

We’ve got new faces, play them and let our more established players earn their spots.

It’s no wonder why Dec and Bowen were running around as if they were going to hand in transfer requests.

Time for Moyes to earn his corn, if he can.
